It
started with a simple question.
Last
summer, a small group of West
Milwaukee High
School alumni and their retired choir director,
Ken McMonagle were visiting after not being in touch for decades. One thought led to another and a question was
asked.
“I wonder.
If we got some alumni together to sing, what would they sound like
today?”
Months
passed and the question turned into a wish to find out an answer. Mac (as he is called) asked one person what
they thought of the idea of contacting previous choir members to see if they
would like to answer that question. Four
emails were sent to just the right people.
Those four forwarded the email along and pretty soon, it took on a life
of its own. Today, the alumni choir is
120 strong all wanting to answer that question for Mac.
It
takes an extraordinary person to get that to happen. Mac’s
former students are coming together 30-50 years after they moved on from high
school not just to make music with him; they wanted to show to him their love, respect, and appreciation for all he has
given to them. Some former students have
credited Mac with sparking a lifelong appreciation for music. Others have said
that they will continue to sing until their dying day because of the love of
music Mac instilled in them.
Please
join us for what promises to be a heart-warming, once-in-a-lifetime event as
the West Milwaukee High School Alumni Choir provides the answer to Mac’s
question. Please see the rest of our blog for more information about the concert.
